COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Many opportunities exist for us to serve God in ministering to others. Parishioners serve in a variety of capacities throughout the community, in social service agencies, governmental positions, and more. In addition, we have several parish commitments and activities. We are continually seeking parish-wide mission opportunities and have established a Holy Comforter Mission Fund to provide funds for these projects. At Holy Comforter, we participate in the following outreach ministries:

ALLIED CHURCHES OF ALAMANCE COUNTY
In ecumenical project offering shelter for the homeless, food for the hungry, and assistance for the poor, parishioners volunteer once a month to serve Monday night meals at the Emergency Night Shelter and second Friday lunches at the Good Shepherd Kitchen. Parishioners also donate non-perishable food each week that serves a recently established food pantry. The youth of the parish established YAH! (Youth Against Hunger), a city-wide effort to educate and involved youth in the needs of those facing food insecurity. Holy Comforter was critical in the establishment of this organization and continues to aid its leadership through volunteer and board involvement.

BREAKFAST MINISTRY
For 30+ years Davis Street Methodist Church also have had a breakfast ministry and they have this down to a science. We have joined together and serve breakfast to go or eat inside. So come join us from 8am-9am EVERY Sunday morning in the Great Hall.

AMERICAN RED CROSS
An annual blood drive is held at Holy Comforter for the American Red Cross. To be announced.

FOSTER CHILDREN'S PROGRAM
At Christmas, we provide Santa gifts for up to twenty-five foster children in Alamance County. This is an ecumenical project with the Lutheran and Catholic churches.

ST. MARTHA'S GUILD
This ministry at Holy Comforter knits and crochets afghans and prayer shawls for those who need some warmth, for those who are grieving or recuperating from illness, and for newly baptized children. They also have a thriving comfort doll ministry and send dolls to children around the world. Finished products are presented in a spirit of prayer and kinship with the recipient. All interested in this kind of hand-work are invited to join.
